General comment This dataset is part of a set of LCI datasets for CCUS (carbon capture, utilisation and storage) technologies developed in Korea. This dataset represents 1 kg of CO2 captured from the flue gas of the cracking furnaces of a Korean naphtha cracking centre (NCC) by post-combustion capture with an aqueous amine solvent, modelled as a CO2 feedstock. The cracker with capture supplies two functions, ethylene and captured CO2. Following an underlying physical relationship, the changes caused by capture (capture plant inputs and the reduced CO2 emission of the furnaces) are allocated to the captured CO2; the dataset therefore contains a negative fossil CO2 emission. Low-pressure steam and electricity for capture are supplied independently of the cracker. Capture rate about 90%. CO2 compression, liquefaction, transport and storage are not included. The capture data are based on the design of a 3,000 t/d capture plant (MEA solvent), cross-checked with a demonstration plant at a Korean NCC and international studies. |
