General comment This dataset is part of a set of LCI datasets for low-carbon petrochemical technologies developed in Korea. Polymer-grade ethylene is produced by cracking naphtha in a hydrogen plasma (3,000-6,000 K) generated with electricity, so that no fuel is burned in the cracking step. Hydrogen used as plasma gas is recovered and recycled; a small make-up is required. The naphtha cracking centre (NCC) consists of cracking, quench, compression and separation/purification. Only the cracking step is replaced; the downstream steps are modelled as in the conventional NCC, and the cracking products are assumed to be the same as in the conventional NCC. |
