The results apply to polymer-grade ethylene at the cracker gate. Burdens were allocated by the PlasticsEurope Eco-profiles method (main and additional products); results are not directly comparable with datasets allocated by other methods. Electricity is a projected mix for 2038.

General comment
This dataset is part of a set of LCI datasets for low-carbon petrochemical technologies developed in Korea. Polymer-grade ethylene is produced by naphtha steam cracking in which 50% of the heat input of the cracking furnaces, supplied by methane from the by-product gas in the conventional NCC, is replaced by blue hydrogen (hydrogen from steam methane reforming with CO2 capture and storage). The hydrogen input is determined on the basis of the heat input. The naphtha cracking centre (NCC) consists of cracking, quench, compression and separation/purification. Only the cracking step is replaced; the downstream steps are modelled as in the conventional NCC, and the cracking products are assumed to be the same as in the conventional NCC.
